Bow To A Rainbow, Not Bow To Pressure

The wait was over! On 15 November 2017 @ 10:00 AM, it was time when Australian Bureau of Statistics revealed the results of Marriage Law Postal Survey. With 7,817,247 (61.6%) responding Yes and 4,873,987 (38.4%) responding No (source: ABS), it was a triumph for the people behind the long-running Yes campaign and a long-awaited victory for the LGBT community. Overall, a huge win for anyone believing in humanity and equality.

Australia has spoken and decided to bow to a rainbow, not bow to pressure. Strong 7,817,247 Yes votes included mine and literally millions of many discerning Aussies’. In between, I had many friends and colleagues come to me and say I’m going to vote Yes and my whole family is going vote Yes. Collectively, it was many of these small numbers made up of the final big numbers in all states and territories.

The storm has passed. Australia is on the path to becoming the next country to recognize marriage equality and make it a law! We will never take it for granted…
