The first time I heard of Second Life was from a YouTube clip. The presenter Dr Kimberley Young was on the TEDx Talks stage delivering a compelling message about internet addiction and its impacts on individuals and families. She particularly made a reference to Second Life – a virtual world where users can be anyone or anything and live a lavish lifestyle they desire etc. Perhaps I’m old fashioned but sweeping the reality under the carpet and venturing into a virtual community is not going to give us a second chance in life. Instead of wishing for a second life, building a second skill through life-long learning is the sure-fire way to help us move on to greener pastures and fast-track a life we’ve been dreaming of. It doesn’t take seconds to understand that… Now, I ask myself: What a second skill can I develop? Watch this space!
